Despite its stern climate and rugged landscape, Alaska can be a welcoming market for prospective computer professionals. The unique fusion of industry growth and competitive salary earns high marks from graduates of the state's colleges and technical schools.

TechPolicyBank reports that high-tech industry workers earn an average of $18,957 more per year than other private sector workers in the state; that's a national ranking of 33rd for the average high-tech wage. Alaska, and particularly Anchorage, is home to several large companies that court certified candidates every year. According to the Alaska state website, the top technology employers in the region include GCI Communications, Wells Fargo Financial Services, and Chugach Development Corporation.
