Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing Training FAQ
Why are graphic design and desktop publishing considered types of computer training?
These days the personal computer has become one of the most important tools in a graphic designer's tool box. Images are created in the computer or can be scanned in and computer software offers the designer a huge number of tools to manipulate the image.
What sort of computer courses might a graphic designer, or one interested in being a graphic designer, want to take?
If you have a traditional or online high school diploma, but no experience at all with computers, a good introductory course in computer basics would be a good place to start. Courses are then offered in all the popular computer applications commonly used by graphic designers (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Page Maker, Quark, etc. to name a few). Some schools offer more in depth courses that go into design theory and practices in addition to how to use software applications. Programs leading to associate and bachelor degrees are also available.
What types of job are available?
Many companies need graphic designers to design marketing and sales material, advertising, web sites, product packaging, signage, and countless other things. Many firms exist specifically to fill this need and employee teams of designers. Graphic Designers are found working in a diverse range of fields.
