As you might expect, Washington DC earns high marks in emerging technologies and progressive job growth. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that DC placed second behind New York on the list of largest cybercities as measured by AeA, the largest high-tech trade association.

And according to the Washington Business Journal, Washington DC sits squarely between two states that scored high on The Milken Institute's State Technology and Science Index. Both Virginia and Maryland were noted for having a high concentration of talent in the science and tech industries, giving a boost to Washington DC. Major employers in the Washington DC area include strategic analysis firm Intellibridge, online map-based rental housing and real estate search engine Hotpads.com, and Internet strategy and technology firm Blue State Digital.
