Q1. What is Oracle?

  Oracle is the largest vendor of database systems in the world with the largest market share for both MS-Windows and Unix based databases. Oracle is also the second largest independent software company in the world. Oracle software is used by many of the largest companies in the world. Oracle is widely known for it’s use as the backend for some of the largest websites in the world.

Q2. What companies offer certifications for Oracle?

  Currently four companies offer Oracle Certification: Oracle Corporation, Brainbench Inc., Test.com Inc., and The Chauncey Group International. Oracle Corporation’s OCP certification is the most widely sought after and recognized of these certifications.

Q3. Why would I want to get Oracle Certification? Is it widely recognized?

  Oracle certifications are one of the most sought after certifications in both Information Technology and the Internet Economy. There is an increasing need for developers, engineers, and administrators to support the technologies Oracle is providing. Over 60,000 people worldwide have earned Oracle Certifications.

Q4. Will I make more money if I get Oracle certified?

  In a recent salary survey of certified professionals by Certification Magazine, Oracle Certified Professionals ranked Number 1 for the highest average salaries earned on the job. The survey involved members of the top certification programs in the IT industry. Net gains due to obtaining a certification were also researched, and both Oracle and Cisco Certified Professionals were, again, at the top of the list for increased salary due to certification.

Q5. What tracks are available as part of the Oracle Certified Professionals program?

 

Oracle currently offers a number of different tracks. Each track typically involves passing a number of basic tests and then several track specific tests:

  • Oracle Database Administrator
    • Oracle 10g DBA: OCA, OCP, OCM
    • Oracle9i DBA: OCA, OCP, OCM
  • Oracle Middleware
    • Oracle 10g AS: OCA, OCP
    • Oracle9iAS: OCA
    • Oracle9i Forms: OCA, OCP
    • Oracle 6i Forms: OCP
  • Oracle Application Developer
    • Oracle E-business Suite 11i
    • A number of additional professional application certifications
  • Linux
    • Oracle Database 10g
    • Oracle 9i Database

Q6. Is training required to earn Oracle certification?

  No, all you need to do it pass the tests. However, some training is usually recommended before attempting the tests. All of the questions on the test come from the official Oracle study guides so it is advisable to take a course that provides these guides.

Q7. How do I know if I’m ready to take the Oracle certification test?

  Training courses will prepare you well for test and will offer practice tests and study guides that will assure you are ready to take the test. You can also find practice tests on the Internet at Oracle’s website and other training web sites.
